Fort McMurray trio arrested, guns seized after RCMP operation in Yorkton

Three men from Fort McMurray are facing numerous gun charges after a search warrant was executed at a home in Yorkton.

The search warrant was carried out on March 9 at a property on Russell Drive in the city’s east end in a joint operation between Yorkton RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team (SERT).

According to an RCMP news release issued Tuesday, two 31-year-old men and a 37-year-old man were all arrested and charged after Mounties found a loaded prohibited firearm, a non-restricted firearm, ammunition and drug trafficking paraphernalia at the property.

The three men from Fort McMurray, Alta. each face four charges. They include unauthorized possession of a firearm, possessing a prohibited firearm when knowing it is unauthorized, possessing a firearm or ammunition in a motor vehicle and possessing a prohibited firearm with ammunition.

The 37-year-old has also been additionally charged with four counts of possessing weapons contrary to a court order.

Both the 37-year-old and 31-year-old accused are scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on March 25 – while the remaining accused will make his first appearance on March 30.
