What’s open and closed in Ottawa on Canada Day

CTV News Ottawa looks at what’s open and closed in Ottawa on Canada Day.

• Canada Day in Ottawa: Events at LeBreton Flats, Kanata, Stittsville, Barrhaven and across Ottawa

OC Transpo

OC Transpo is celebrating Canada Day with free transit.

There will be no charge for transit on OC Transpo buses and the O-Train between 3 a.m. Wednesday and 3 a.m. on Thursday.

OC Transpo buses and O-Train Lines 1, 2 and 4 will run on special Canada Day schedules.

O-Train Line 1 will run from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will run from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Express shuttle buses will be running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for customers travelling from select Park & Ride lots to O-Train Line 1.

• In the west end, shuttle buses will stop at Terry Fox and Eagleson stations and connect to Line 1 at Tunney’s Pasture Station.
• In the east end, shuttle buses will stop at Millennium and Trim stations and connect to Line 1 at Blair Station.

Para Transpo says the reservations line will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trip Cancellation Line will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Green bin, recycling and garbage collection

There will be no green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection on Wednesday. Pickup will take place on Thursday, and the collection will be delayed by one day the rest of the week.

Multi-residential garbage containers and bulky items will be collected on their regular scheduled day, including on Canada Day. The collection of multi-residential recycling containers and green bins will be delayed by one day.

The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will be open on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Client Service Centres

• ServiceOttawa’s Client Services counters and phone lines will be closed on Wednesday.
• Ottawa’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters.
• The Provincial Court and Administrative Penalty System Hearing area located at Mary Pitt Centre (100 Constellation Drive) and the supporting counter and phone lines will be closed.
• The Business Licensing Centre on Industrial Avenue will be closed on July 1.
• The City of Ottawa’s Spay and Neuter Clinic on Concourse Gate will be closed on Wednesday.

City of Ottawa facilities

• Outdoor pools, wading pools and splash pads will be open on Wednesday.
• Many recreation centres will be closed. Check the facility pages for details.
• City-operated museums, the Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe and the Shenkman Arts Centre will be closed on Wednesday.
• The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, the Karsh-Masson Gallery and the City Hall Art Gallery will be closed on Canada Day
• The Ottawa Public Health Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed
• The Dental Clinics will be closed
• All City of Ottawa municipal childcare centres will be closed on July 1
• All Ottawa Public Library Branches will be closed on July 1.

Malls

• The Rideau Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Canada Day
• Stores at Tanger Outlets are permitted to open on Canada Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• The following malls are closed on July 1: Bayshore Shopping Centre, Billings Bridge Shopping Centre, Carlingwood Shopping Centre, St. Laurent Centre and Place d’Orleans.

Businesses in the ByWard Market and the Glebe are permitted to open on Canada Day.

LCBO/Beer Stores

All LCBO outlets will be closed on Canada Day.

The following Beer Store outlets will be open in Ottawa on Wednesday: Montreal Road, 1860 Bank Street, 499 Terry Fox Drive, Fallowfield Road, College Square, 2276 Tenth Line Road.

Grocery Stores

The following grocery stores are open on Canada Day:

• Farm Boy Rideau Centre: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Farm Boy Metcalfe: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Loblaws Isabella Street: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Loblaws Rideau Street: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Metro Glebe: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Metro Rideau Street: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Whole Foods Lansdowne – 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Banks/mail delivery/government offices

There will be no mail delivery in Ottawa and across Canada on Canada Day. Canada Post says post offices will be closed.

All banks will be closed on Wednesday.

All federal and Ontario government offices will be closed on Canada Day.

• Canadian Museum of Nature will be open July 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
• Canada Agriculture and Food Museum will be open July 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
• Canada Science and Technology Museum will be open July 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
• Canada Aviation and Space Museum will be open July 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
• Canadian War Museum will be open July 1 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
• Canadian Museum of History will be open July 1 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
• National Gallery of Canada will be open July 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
• The Bytown Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
• The Diefenbunker will be open July 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
