Sask. premier says he and Prime Minister Carney discussed province’s priorities, future during meeting

Premier Scott Moe spoke with Prime Minister Mark Carney Thursday, discussing the province’s priorities as well as the importance of Saskatchewan’s strong growth within Canada.

In a statement sent by the province, Moe said he also congratulated Carney on his election win and invited him to come visit Saskatchewan in the near future.

“It was an opportunity to discuss Saskatchewan’s priorities, which include the removal of U.S. and Chinese tariffs, the industrial carbon tax, the Impact Assessment Act and the oil and gas emissions cap, as well as the role Saskatchewan can play in making Canada an energy superpower,” Moe said in the statement.

Moe said bail reform and the criminal code were also discussion topics.

The meeting came after a heated Question Period Thursday inside Saskatchewan’s Legislature, where NDP leader Carla Beck said Moe needs to condemn western separation talks that have rekindled following a fourth straight election win by the federal Liberals.

During the debate Moe said the province has no interest in separation but would also not take away people’s right to a voice and opinion on the matter.
