A dump truck caused severe damage to several vehicles parked in front of homes in Barrhaven Tuesday morning.

Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps says first responders were called to Apolune Street and Cambrian Road at approximately 10:47 a.m.

CTV News Ottawa cameras found three vehicles that were rammed by the truck still at the scene. Video footage caught on a neighbour’s doorbell camera sent by a viewer captures the truck as it tears through the front yards of several homes.

Deschamps says the driver experienced a medical emergency “possibly related to the heat.” The driver was taken to hospital in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

Residents were left picking up the pieces and processing the incident in the afternoon.

Rebecca Whelan says the truck hit six cars in total, including her Chevy Equinox that is now totaled. Her front yard also has damage.

“We could hear him driving really fast down the street when he’d already hit the first three cars, then ours, before our neighbours,” she said.

“He hit a post and that’s the only thing that’s stopped him.”

Delphine Nwawuzie said she and her sister were about to leave the house for work. Her Hyundai Elantra was seriously damaged.

“I went inside to take a shower and then I heard this loud bang. I thought my sister fell. I came outside and the whole place was like a crime scene,” Nwawuzie said.

“I was in shock. We were supposed to come out here to see what happened but I was too scared. I have never had something like that happen in my life.”

Her sister Marianne says she was shocked by the incident but is happy no lives were lost.

“We were almost going to get into our car. It happened all at once it was really scary. It’s been a hell of a day. Just trying to process the whole thing and get calm,” she said.

The Ottawa Police Service says it was called to the scene but limited information was available.

The incident remains under investigation, police say.
