Driver charged for having ‘nearly bald’ tires, tinted windows on Hwy. 417

A driver is facing more than $400 in fines for driving on Highway 417 in Ottawa with tinted windows and "nearly bald" tires.

Ontario Provincial Police said an officer stopped a driver on Highway 417 on Tuesday.

“Putting tint on your front windshield is prohibited and could result in you being stopped by police,” Const. Michael Fathi said on X, adding the officer noticed the vehicle’s tires were “nearly bald.”

The vehicle also did not have a front licence plate, Fathi said.

The driver received four charges, including for having improper tires, failing to display two licence plates and for having a tinted front window.

The fines total $440 upon conviction.

A photo posted on social media by the OPP showed the bald tires on the vehicle.

“With winter quickly approaching, make sure to get your snow tires on ASAP!” Fathi said.
