Prohibited driver charged with speeding in northern Ont. First Nation

A 24-year-old woman from the Greater Sudbury community of Naughton faces multiple charges after police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Pine Grove Road in Atikameksheng First Nation last week.

Members of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Police Service made the traffic stop at about 3 p.m. on May 8. Authorities said the officers were on general patrol conducting traffic enforcement at the time.

Traffic stop leads to multiple charges

“The driver was found to be both a suspended and prohibited driver and was arrested,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.

As a result of an investigation, the motorist was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, two counts of driving while under a suspension and speeding.

In addition to the charges, the vehicle was impounded for 45 days at the owner’s expense.

The woman was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Sudbury on Aug. 5.
