Licence plate issue leads to drug trafficking charges in Timmins

Police in Timmins say a suspect has been charged with drug trafficking and drugged driving after a vehicle was stopped this week for having an unauthorized plate.

The vehicle was stopped May 21 by patrol officers, police said in a news release May 22.

“A vehicle (was) travelling westbound on Kamiskotia Road displaying an unauthorized licence plate,” police said.

“While speaking with the driver, officers observed signs consistent with drug impairment. Police conducted a search of the vehicle and seized a quantity of suspected controlled substances such as methamphetamine, morphine, cocaine, heroin and other controlled substances.”

A 30-year-old man from Timmins has been charged with seven counts of drug trafficking, as well as drugged driving, driving while suspended, violating probation, driving without insurance, dangerous driving and driving with an unauthorized licence plate.

In addition, a passenger in the vehicle, a 37-year-old woman, was charged with on an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Ontario Provincial Police.
