Samuel De Champlain Bridge maintenance crew using remote-controlled lawn mower for steep inclines

Remote-controlled robotic lawn mowers are being used to maintain the green space in the area of the Samuel De Champlain Bridge.

Groupe Signature Sur Le Saint-Laurent, a consortium responsible for maintaining the green space in the area of the Samuel De Champlain Bridge is using a remote-controlled robotic lawn mower to get the work done.

Much of the grass is on a significant incline, especially on the south shore side, which makes it difficult to use heavy machinery due to safety concerns.

But the remote-controlled lawn mower makes it safer for the crew, according to Martin Chamberland, the Chief of Operations with Groupe Signature Sur Le Saint-Laurent.

“It can go in very steep areas,” he says. “So in terms of safety, it’s a very, very good improvement.”

Chamberland adds that the crew is responsible for maintaining more than 600,000 square metres of grass from May to October every year. Adding this piece of machinery has been a game-changer.

“It’s a no-brainer to access difficult areas, notably the steepest ones,” he says.

Groupe Signature Sure Le Saint-Laurent currently has two of the remote-controlled robotic lawn mowers at its disposal.
