Snowfall warning in effect as weather system moves through region

A snowfall warning is in effect Sunday as heavy snowfall is expected.

“We are expecting up to 15 cm of snow by end of day. Now this snow is going to cause reduced visibility. And gusty winds will have us dealing with some blowing snow,” said CTV London weather specialist Reta Ismail. “Travel will be tricky, so make sure to give yourself some extra time.”

Ismail says the snow will switch to flurries by Monday morning, with the possibility of snow squalls.

“A low-pressure system is expected to move in on Tuesday, with that we’ll see additional snowfall,” warned Ismail.

She added with daytime highs around minus 10 degrees, feeling like minus 20, we are nowhere near normal for this time of year, “It is certainly going to feel like winter, so make sure to bundle up and stay warm.”

Experts warn easterly winds gusting 40 to 50 km/h may result in local blowing snow, particularly for exposed areas.

Travelling during this snowstorm is not recommended.

Monday: Flurries ending early in the afternoon then a mix of sun and cloud. Risk of snow squalls in the morning and early in the afternoon. Local blowing snow in the afternoon. Local amount 5 cm. Wind west 30 km/h gusting to 50. High minus 10. Wind chill near minus 23.

Tuesday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 9.

Wednesday: A mix of sun and cloud with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 11.

Thursday: Cloudy. High minus 10.

Friday: A mix of sun and cloud with 40 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 8.
