A Georgina man is facing a number of charges after he was arrested by police in relation to a drug trafficking investigation. York Regional Police (YRP) began the investigation, dubbed Project Winnie, in April as police followed the trail of what they say were controlled substances being trafficked through Georgina. On Wednesday, police arrested a 28-year-old Georgina man in relation to the investigation. Search warrants were executed at two homes connected to the investigation, one in Barrie and another in Georgina. Between the two residences and two cars searched by law enforcement, YRP says officers recovered a quantity of substances believed to be cocaine, a quantity of Canadian currency and a loaded firearm. The 28-year-old is now facing charges of trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a firearm and possession of a restricted firearm with readily accessible ammunition. Police say the accused was already on probation and subject to a weapons prohibition order at the time of his arrest. Anyone with additional information on the matter is asked to contact police.
