One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash on a Manitoba highway overnight on Wednesday. An RCMP spokesperson told CTV News that officers from the St. Pierre-Jolys detachment responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 59 near Prefontaine Road in the RM of Tache at 12:21 a.m. They said a vehicle with two people inside was heading north on Highway 59 when the vehicle crossed lanes and was struck by a semi-truck heading south. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch. The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man from Ontario, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 13-year-old boy from Steinbach, was airlifted to a Winnipeg hospital by STARS with serious, life-threatening injuries. The semi-truck driver, a 45-year-old man from Alberta, was not injured. A road closure was in effect at the scene of the crash for several hours but has since reopened. The crash is under investigation.
