Police say several youths were involved in fire that destroyed Brantford barn

The Brantford Police Service will not be laying criminal charges after a vacant barn was destroyed by a fire.

Emergency services were called to a property along Mount Pleasant Road near Conklin Road on Friday around 3:30 p.m. By the time they arrived, the building was engulfed in flames and thick black smoke billowed over nearby homes.

The barn was significantly damaged and an excavator was brought in to help firefighters reach lingering hotspots. By Saturday morning, all that was left was charred wood and bits of metal.

At the time, police were treating the fire as suspicious.

On Tuesday, investigators announced they had determined several youths were involved in the incident.

“After careful review of the circumstances, it has been determined that no criminal charges will be laid,” a police news release said.
