Strathcona County RCMP say the area of 911 Bison Way in Sherwood Park was locked down after a member of the public brought in a device for disposal, which police believed to be an old military ordinance.

CTV News Edmonton’s cameras saw several pylons around a black SUV in the parking lot of the detachment early Tuesday morning.

The military item has since been removed and the detachment is back to normal operations.

Officials are warning anyone who finds something they believe to be an explosive to call 911 or contact the police and to not handle the device directly.

RCMP say the safe disposal of explosives is done at no cost to the public.
