RCMP attempt to pull over impaired driver ends in collision in Edmonton

EPS and RCMP are investigating after an impaired driver collided with another vehicle in north Edmonton Friday night.

An impaired driver is in RCMP custody after colliding with another vehicle in northeast Edmonton Friday night.

Strathcona RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver headed westbound on Highway 16 at 9:56 p.m. Mounties located the suspect vehicle near Highway 16 and 17, and when they tried to pull him over, the man fled at a high rate of speed.

Moments later, the vehicle crashed on Yellowhead and Victoria Trail with a Ford truck.

The suspect fled the collision on foot, but was quickly apprehended by RCMP. He was taken to the University of Alberta Hospital, treated, and is now in custody.

A female passenger of the suspect vehicle was transported to the Royal Alexandra Hospital and underwent surgery.

The driver of the truck was transported to the Sturgeon County Hospital with minor injuries.

RCMP is investigating the alleged impaired driving, and EPS are investigating the actual crash.
