City finishes first phase of Jasper Avenue improvement project in Wîhkwêntôwin

The first stage of streetscape reconstruction along Jasper Avenue in Edmonton’s most densely populated neighbourhood is complete, the city said Friday.

In a media release, the City of Edmonton said crews have finished Stage 1 of the Imagine Jasper Avenue Project, Phase 2, which stretched from 114 Street to 117 Street in the Wîhkwêntôwin neighbourhood.

It added temporary single-lane closures will be made during off-peak hours over the next two weeks for street light installation.

The project sees the avenue get the lighting and upgrades to sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and transit access points. It started in April and was originally slated to end in mid-July.

The city said the second phase of the project, which will be done along the major central east-west thoroughfare from 117 Street to 121 Street, will start in the spring.
