A 65-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a Ford F-350 on Friday while walking in the Edgemont neighbourhood of west Edmonton, according to a news release from Edmonton Police Services (EPS). Around 2 p.m. on Friday, police say the woman was walking eastbound on the north sidewalk of Edgemont Boulevard with her 11-year-old grandson, who was on a pedal bike. At the same time, the Ford F-350, driven by a 38-year-old man, was attempting to turn left onto Edgemont Way and struck the woman, EPS said. Emergency crews brought the woman to the hospital where she later died of her injuries. No other injuries were reported. The driver of the truck stayed on scene and EPS said neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision. In their news release Saturday, Sgt. Duane Bateman with the major collisions section of EPS said officers were grateful to bystanders who stepped in to help on the scene. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
