Police have released the man who was arrested at Fairview Pointe Claire mall in connection with an investigation into death threats and a firearm, with a promise to appear in court. The suspect, a 24-year-old man from Longueuil, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the alleged threats, according to Longueuil police (SPAL). “He was released on a promise to appear, subject to certain conditions,” SPAL said in an email to CTV News. Longueuil police told CTV News on Wednesday that officers were called to the scene around 11 a.m. to assist the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in locating a suspect. Montreal police (SPVM) were also deployed to the scene. Longueuil police declined to say why Interpol was involved. In a statement to CTV News, Interpol also declined to comment on its role in the investigation. The organization explained that each member country has an Interpol office staffed by national authorities who serve as the point of contact between domestic law enforcement agencies, other national bureaus and Interpol headquarters. “If or when a member country shares information with the General Secretariat, it remains under their ownership and cannot be shared without the country’s permission,” an Interpol spokesperson wrote. Interpol referred further questions to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). CTV News contacted the RCMP, which said it was not involved in the case. SPAL investigators interviewed the suspect to clarify the circumstances surrounding the reported statements and to assess their significance. Police established a perimeter in the area to allow officers to search a vehicle connected to the incident.
