A suspect has been arrested and charged after two tourists from Calgary were attacked in downtown Vancouver this week. Police said the man and woman were in town for one of the five sold-out Bruno Mars concerts at B.C. Place, and were assaulted after leaving Wednesday’s show. An officer was patrolling near Gastown when he witnessed an altercation between the tourists and a suspect around 11 p.m., according to the Vancouver Police Department. “The suspect allegedly punched the male victim on the arm with a sharp object, believed to be glass,” the department said in a news release Thursday. “The force of that contact pushed the female victim into a nearby light pole.” Authorities said the man suffered a cut to his forearm that was later treated at the scene by paramedics. The patrol officer intervened and managed to safely handcuff the suspect, who turned out to be wanted on two outstanding warrants for breaching probation and failing to attend court, according to police. Derek Dale Driscoll, 34, has since been charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. He remained in custody Thursday afternoon pending a bail hearing.
