The Government of Alberta says provincial waters remain free of invasive mussels. To maintain the status, it’s relaunching the Provincial Aquatic Invasive Species Task Force. Invasive mussels can be easily and introduced through the movement of boats and other watercraft across borders. If established in Alberta, they could spread rapidly, damaging aquatic ecosystems. So far in 2026, Alberta has intercepted eight watercraft carrying invasive mussels.
