Linamar closes acquisition of German iron casting plant

GUELPH — Manufacturer Linamar Corp. says it has closed its roughly $72-million acquisition of an iron casting plant in Germany.

Guelph, Ont.-based Linamar initially announced the 45-million euro acquisition of the facility in Leipzig from Georg Fischer Ltd. on Oct. 7.

It says the plant includes numerous technologies including 3D-printing and prototyping as well as Europe’s largest moulding box for machine-moulded iron castings.

In November, Linamar also closed the acquisition of Aludyne Inc.’s North American operations in a US$300 million deal that significantly expanded its manufacturing footprint in the United States.

It said the Aludyne acquisition would help serve customers locally, which it noted was increasingly important in the dynamic global trade environment.

Linamar says the Leipzig plant will help it expand its on- and off-highway commercial vehicle business and is close to some of its existing Linamar European facilities.
