Stay the night at Discovery Harbour

You can now make a whole weekend stay at some of your favourite places to go in Simcoe County.

Huronia Historical Parks has announced two of its hotspot tourism destinations now invite guests to stay overnight and take in the experience for even longer.

An added perk is each overnight stay includes a historic or event experience, with each season offering something different. For example, for spring, guests can have a guided tour of the grounds.

“These new overnight experiences let guests slow down, stay longer, and truly connect with our historic sites,” said Chad Moreau, senior operations manager at Huronia Historical Parks. “Extended stays also help strengthen the local economy—supporting nearby restaurants, shops and tourism partners throughout the region.”

As of April 3, guests will be able to book overnight stays at Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene, a way for them to immerse themselves in the historical site even more.

The accommodations at Discovery Harbour are winterized cabins, located off the original Officers’ Quarters with views of Georgian Bay. Huronia Historical Parks describe the cabins as cozy with a heritage-inspired atmosphere.

In late November of last year, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons in Midland launched overnight stays in four-season cabins.

Huronia Historical Parks says the cabins at Sainte-Marie’s are situated along the Wye River. They are climate controlled, making them truly four-season accommodations. They also have furniture handcrafted by Sainte-Marie’s carpenters. In addition, the cabins include an electric fireplace, sofa, bar top and stools.

“Overnight experiences offer a new, creative way to enjoy Huronia Historical Parks’ living history sites with your family and friends,” said Stan Cho, minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “Enjoying a night under the stars and staying in a bespoke, custom cabin built on-site by skilled craftspeople is a charming invitation for visitors to stay longer and make the most of their visit to Simcoe County.”

All cabins have private outdoor firepits, Muskoka chairs and picnic tables, with modern washrooms and showers a short walk away. Parking is also included.

Overnight stays are $200 per night.
