Waterloo Regional Police are investigating after a fire damaged a restaurant in Kitchener early Saturday morning. Emergency crews were called to a business in the area of Lancaster Street West and Ash Street at approximately 5 a.m. According to police, the Kitchener Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported. Kitchener Fire said nine trucks from five stations were dispatched and arrived to find a significant fire inside one of the building’s units. Firefighters worked to bring the fire under control and remained at the scene to monitor hot spots. The department’s fire inspection team continued to assess the building for potential structural concerns. Police said investigators have since determined the fire is suspicious in nature. Waterloo Regional Police and Kitchener Fire are working together to determine the cause of the fire. Damage estimates were not immediately available.
