A home in Ottawa’s west end was severely damaged during a fire that burned for over two hours on Friday evening. The Ottawa Fire Services say multiple 911 callers reported visible flames and heavy black smoke coming from a single-family home on Solva Drive in the Crystal Beach neighbourhood at approximately 9:30 p.m. Firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames, with the heaviest fire being found towards the back and extending to the roof. A second alarm was called to bring additional resources to the scene. While battling the flames, crews had to mitigate hazards at the scene, including propane tanks in the back shed. Ottawa paramedics also responded to the fire and assessed two people at the scene. One person was transported to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries, a spokesperson told CTV News Ottawa. The fire was declared under control about two and a half hours after the initial calls at 11:06 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
