Midland girls raise $1,000 for food bank with lemonade stand

Some young girls raised $1,000 with their lemonade stand for the Georgian Bay Food Network.

A group of girls in Midland turned a classic summer lemonade stand into something much tastier - a successful fundraiser, bringing in $1,000 for the Georgian Bay Food Network.

The stand on Pillsbury Drive offered lemonade, freezies and chips to passersby. There was also organized a raffle for a pinball machine, all in support of the food bank.

The Georgian Bay Food Network, an independent, non-profit organization, serves Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny and Tay Townships, along with Christian Island.

It operates much like a grocery store, offering visitors the opportunity to choose from a range of fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, dairy and baked goods, rather than dolling out pre-packaged bags. Officials say this allows for a more self-sufficient and dignified visit for those in need of a little extra help.

As food insecurity surges across the province, the Georgian Bay Food Network says community support like the lemonade stand makes a big difference for local families.
