Heavy rainfall, slope instability closes High Level Bridge sidewalk

Wet conditions have left a section of sidewalk on the southeast side of High Level Bridge unsafe.

Part of the southeast side of the High Level Bridge is closed for muddy, slippery conditions after an onslaught of rain in Edmonton.

The east sidewalk along that section is closed starting Thursday evening until further notice.

A section of the slope next to the bridge’s wooden guardrail has failed and is unsafe for pedestrians, the city says.

The west sidewalk is still accessible.

As a precaution, the city has closed a portion of the far left turn lane on the 109 Street hill directly after the High Level Bridge. Drivers will still be able to turn left to Saskatchewan Drive and Walterdale Hill.
