In the ongoing fight against organized extortion in Calgary, police have released the photos and names of more than a dozen arrested suspects. Police said Thursday morning the hope is members of the public will recognize them and come forward with more tips. The suspects might be known to members of the public by different names, police say, or maybe were met under different circumstances. “We don’t want people hiding in plain sight,” Supt. Jeff Bell said. According to police, Calgary has seen 49 extortion-related incidents since April 2025. The majority of the incidents have targeted members of the city’s South Asian community. Police say 19 shootings are tied to the incidents. So far, 16 people have had 56 charges laid against them in connection with various incidents. “We want to emphasize that these investigations remain active and ongoing,” Bell said. “Additional assistance from the public is critical. “We will not stop until everyone involved in these crimes has been identified and held accountable. “(And) our success thus far is a direct result of the co-operation and support from community members.” Photos, names and aliases for 15 of them have now been shared by police. One at large One of them, 22-year-old Germanjeet Singh, remains at large, wanted on warrant for discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life. He goes by the aliases German Singh, Garry Singh and Gary Singh. Police responded to a home in the 8400 block of Saddleridge Drive N.E. around 2:45 a.m. on Feb. 22 for reports of a shooting. Police returned to the same residence around 5:10 a.m. on March 4 for reports of another shooting. In both incidents, multiple rounds are believed to have been fired either into or at the home. Two of three suspects have been arrested. Singh is the third suspect, with police saying they believe him to be involved in the second incident specifically. Help wanted Suspects in two other extortion investigations still need to be identified — one in Cityscape and the other in Saddle Ridge. Police say around 5:15 a.m. on June 12, three vehicles parked outside a home in the 300 block of Skyview Parkway N.E. were damaged. It’s believed the damage was caused by two individuals, who then fled in a grey Ford Expedition. Another incident occurred there on March 4. And police say on May 10, a Saddle Ridge resident “received threatening messages from an unknown individual demanding money” and “a video of a shooting at a business unrelated to the victim as an intimidation tactic.” Police said while speaking with investigators, the resident “received another message from the suspect that included a video of the victim’s residence.” Tip-gathering The other 14 suspects police have shared photos, names and aliases for include: Images of them and information about them can be viewed online here. A dedicated extortion email address, extortion@calgarypolice.ca, is also available. Bell said if you’re the victim of extortion, “Do not pay. Contact police immediately.” Most not held The majority of the suspects are not currently in police custody. “All but one person that has been charged are currently in the community,” Bell said. “One person remains in custody. “Often, when they’re released, there is a condition or conditions around that. “We’re intentional about ensuring they’re compliant with their conditions—we take the offender management component very seriously and follow through with that.” Police did not disclose what conditions have been imposed on the suspects.
