A red tornado warning that was issued for the Glencoe area has been lifted. Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a large thunderstorm system that they said had the potential to produce a tornado. The alert was initially issued for the Glencoe area just before 6 p.m., but it quickly moved eastward toward John E. Pearce Provincial Park before proceeding to Moraviantown and Thamesville. The warning also blanketed Chatham-Kent for a period of time. The warning was one that Environment Canada called a “very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.” Currently, a tornado has not been confirmed. The warning was lifted just before 8 p.m. Here’s what you can expect in the coming days A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for much of southern Ontario. Rainfall and other extreme weather is expected to persist into the evening. A large amount of rain is expected to accompany those thunderstorms, with some locations throughout the region including London expecting in excess of 20 millimeters of rain. Saturday will be cloudy with sunny breaks, but the real turn comes on Sunday, when temperatures are expected to shoot up to around 30 degrees.
