Pictou County, N.S., man arrested in relation to drug trafficking investigation

A 39-year-old Pictou County man has been arrested for alleged drug and weapons offences, according to Nova Scotia RCMP.

The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit learned through an ongoing drug trafficking investigation a man was selling cocaine and methamphetamine throughout the region.

Officers observed the suspect in a BMW SUV travelling along Hamilton Road in Westville, N.S., on Thursday.

He then drove to a residence on Bells Lane in New Glasgow and got out of the SUV carrying a backpack. Police arrested him and three other occupants of the vehicle.

Police say when they searched the backpack, they found roughly 50 grams of crack cocaine, 30 grams of methamphetamine, a quantity of cash and an air-powered handgun.

Glen Robert Rent has been charged with:

• possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
• possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine)
• possession of property obtained by crime
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

He was set to appear in Pictou provincial court Friday. The three passengers who were arrested were released without charge.

The investigation is ongoing.
