Police are alerting the public of the latest scam targeting our region and this time, fraudsters are going after your bank account. Officers with the Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP detachment say scam artists are impersonating bank employees and calling residents claiming their bank accounts have been compromised. Police say fraudsters will instruct residents to log into what they say is an online banking portal and then ask for their banking information. From there, scammers are able to steal money. The OPP is reminding residents to never give away their banking information to anyone over the phone, through email or unsolicited links. If you are skeptical as to whether it is actually the bank calling or not, police say to hang up and call your bank directly to verify. Anyone who thinks they’ve been scammed out of money should contact their bank and report it to the OPP.
