The Regina Floral Conservatory is one of Saskatchewan’s gardens that will be featured in a new documentary television series based on gardens in Saskatchewan. Secret Prairie Gardens is currently being filmed and will highlight some of the most unique gardens. The flowers and pollinators of the Regina Floral Conservatory will be covered in one of the show’s five episodes. Adrian Halter is the showrunner of Secret Prairie Gardens and said there are always unique and colourful flowers at the Conservatory. “They have a mix of permanent plants. Some of them are trees. They also have seasonal displays,” he said. Ashley Esakin is the host of Secret Prairie Gardens. She has a science background and specializes in soil. Esakin has been exploring gardening through a YouTube channel for nine years. She said she hopes the series shows viewers gardening can be done in a number of ways, and that the floral conservatory is a great example of experimentation. “You can see tropical plans all in the same space. It’s not something you would see in a regular garden,” Esakin said. “That is the big takeaway for everyone. There is no wrong or right way. You need to experiment and try new stuff.” Gardens in or near La Ronge, Saskatoon, Indian Head and Estonia will also be featured in the series. The operation of the Regina Floral Conservatory will be a focal point of the coverage. “People who care about what they do, who know a lot about what they do, who have a passion,” Halter said. “Those are the stories we’re hoping to share, and the people who volunteer at the conservatory, they fit that bill.” Secret Prairie Gardens is scheduled to premiere in the spring of 2027.
