One dead after vehicle swerves to avoid moose, crashes into oncoming traffic on N.B. highway

A 31-year-old man has died in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 7 in Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B., according to a news release from New Brunswick RCMP.

The crash was reported to emergency responders around 8:28 p.m. on Monday.

The RCMP believes it happened when a southbound vehicle swerved into the opposing lane to avoid a moose, striking a northbound vehicle head on.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 31-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

An autopsy will be conducted and the investigation is ongoing.
