N.B. ski hill acquires 110 acres of land for future expansion

A New Brunswick ski hill is gearing up for an expansion officials say will unlock “tremendous opportunity for the mountain.”

Poley Mountain Resorts, which is located just outside Sussex in Waterford, N.B., has announced they have acquired a 110-acre parcel of land adjoining the hill’s western boundary to expand the resort’s footprint.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Poley,” says General Manager Jamie Hare in a news release. “The addition of this land opens the door to exciting possibilities—from expanded recreational experiences to a diverse range of accommodation offerings that will elevate the guest experience.”

Poley will be working with Whistler, B.C., based company Ecosign to shape plans for the future of the acquired land. Ecosign describes themselves on their website as having a “reputation of being one of the most innovative and expiring mountain resort planning companies in the world.”

Early ideas for the land include ski-in and ski-out condos, private building lots, and also possible hotel and spa facilities.

“This acquisition is more than just land—it’s a major step toward realizing our vision of becoming a true four-season destination,” Hare says. “We’re building something special for our community, our visitors, and future generations.”

As of today, Poley has 32 trails, four lifts, and a modern lodge to support skiers and snowboarders in the winter while during the summer months the hill operates as a bike park with over 16 km over downhill trails.

Over the past 25 years, nearly $15 million has been spent upgrading the resort, with major milestones including the construction of a new lodge in 2014 following a fire.
