A man has been arrested and charged after a transit supervisor was assaulted on a bus in downtown Victoria on Thursday night. At around 7:45 p.m., police said, a “Call 911” sign was displayed on the bus while it was on Douglas Street, near Herald Street. A message of that kind displays on the front of the bus when a driver is unable to call for help and activates an emergency alarm. “While the sign was initially reported as a false alarm, police were later notified that a transit supervisor had been assaulted and that a knife was presented during the assault,” the Victoria Police Department said, in a statement. The assault suspect fled on foot, police said, but officers found and arrested a man who possessed a knife matching a description given by the transit supervisor. Tomoosee Pootoogoo Bailey was charged with assault with a weapon and the breach of a probation order, according to online court records. Bailey is due back in court on July 20 in Port Alberni.
