Mounties in Campbell River are asking the public for help as they work to identify two people suspected of a string of break-ins and attempted break-ins in the city’s downtown area. The incidents occurred during the early morning hours of July 13 and 14, Campbell River RCMP said in a statement Friday. With assistance from the B.C. RCMP’s Island District Forensic Identification Services, officers responded to three break-ins and two attempted break-ins at local businesses on those dates, police said. “Investigators determined the suspects gained entry to three businesses by smashing the front glass doors and windows before entering and stealing merchandise,” the statement reads. “Items reported stolen include cellular phones, clothing, a hair dryer and baseball bats.” In the other two incidents, the suspects were unable to get in, but caused “significant damage” to the businesses they targeted, police said. Mounties shared photos of the two suspects, who can be seen wearing face coverings and hooded sweatshirts. One is dressed in dark colours while the other is wearing light colours. “These incidents resulted in substantial property damage and losses to local businesses,” said Cpl. Brett Urano, in the statement. “We are asking anyone who recognizes the individuals in the photographs or who has information about these break-ins to contact investigators.” Anyone with information should call Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221, police said.
