A school in Winnipeg’s River East Transcona School Division (RETSD) was evacuated on Wednesday following a threat. In a statement, the division confirmed students and staff at Bernie Wolfe School were relocated to their designated evacuation site. RETSD added that upon learning of the threat on Wednesday morning, the Winnipeg Police Service was immediately contacted, and the school’s emergency plan was put into place. “As the school day was just about to begin, students who were already in the school at the time were immediately evacuated,” the statement said. “Students who had not yet entered the school were gathered in the school yard for attendance. All students and staff then walked to the evacuation site as a first point of contact. According to police, officers responded to the report of a threat call just after 8:30 a.m. Police note no physical threats have been discovered at the school and there is no threat to public safety. The division noted that parents and guardians have been notified, adding that the school division is working with police. The investigation continues. No further information was provided on the nature of the threat.
