A 17-year-old and 22-year-old have been arrested as part of a drug and weapons investigation. Waterloo Regional Police launched Project Firebird earlier this summer. On Aug. 26, officers carried out a search warrant at a home on Ira Needles Boulevard and Highview Drive in Kitchener. They seized a stolen, loaded gun, an extended-capacity magazine and an extended-capacity drum magazine. Police also found suspected hydromorphone pills and approximately 250 grams of suspected fentanyl. A 22-year-old Kitchener man and 17-year-old from Guelph were arrested. Both were charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a prohibited device, failure to comply with a probation order, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, careless storage of a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime. Police said the 22-year-old was also charged with possession of a firearm for the purpose of trafficking.
