A B.C. man has been charged in connection with a fiery crash that killed two people near Lytton last year. Police say 44-year-old Joel Chenier, of Williams Lake, is facing a charge of driving without due care and attention under the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act and is due in Lillooet provincial court on Sept. 15. Chenier was allegedly behind the wheel of a southbound SUV when it crossed the centreline, hitting a northbound pickup truck on Highway 1 near Spences Bridge on Aug. 14, 2025. “Two people died, four people were injured, and both vehicles were destroyed by fire,” B.C. Highway Patrol said in a statement Wednesday while announcing a charge that was laid on Aug. 6. Police say Chenier’s vehicle was carrying three passengers, including a woman who died in the crash. The second victim was a man travelling in the pickup truck. Two dogs were also injured.
