The second of five teens who police believe robbed a Georgian Mall jewelry store last Christmas has pleaded guilty and been released from custody. The 16-year-old admitted to being one of five thieves who ransacked Charm Diamond Centres on the afternoon of Dec. 19, 2025, steps from where children were taking photos with Santa. The youth, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is from the Brampton area, and was in custody for the past eight months. A 15-year-old from Toronto was released from custody earlier this summer after accepting responsibility for the smash-and-grab. The violent robbery was captured on cell phone cameras by several onlookers. The teen pleaded guilty before Justice Enno Meijers to three counts of robbery, wearing a disguise, and possession of a dangerous weapon. He admitted to using pepper spray in the mall during the brazen daytime heist. RELATED: 15-year-old pleads guilty for Barrie jewelry store robbery last Christmas The court heard, as part of an Agreed Statement of Facts, that the four alleged thieves and their getaway driver pulled up to the Georgian Mall and targeted Charm Diamond Centres using hammers and wearing ski masks. The teens, as young as 14, smashed display cases and loaded their backpacks with jewelry, the court heard. A shopper was captured on camera using his cane to smack one of the thieves over the head before they ran off. Police said one teen was arrested in the mall followed by four others not far from where their stolen Honda crashed into a ditch in Essa Township. The teen said he didn’t have an answer. His lawyer told the court about the boy’s troubled upbringing with a father behind bars and a mother who had abandoned him. After accepting the joint position proposed by the Crown and defence, Justice Meijers told the teen if he breaches his probation conditions, he could face a much harsher sentence. As part of his sentence the teen is banned from being anywhere near the Georgian Mall. His co-accused return to a youth courtroom next month in Barrie. The allegations against them have not been tested in court.
