Online threat closes Winnipeg high school

A Winnipeg high school closed its doors Monday over an alleged threat, and Winnipeg police are investigating.

A Winnipeg high school is closed Monday morning due to an alleged threat.

St. John’s High School posted on its website that it is closed Monday morning and students and staff should not report to school.

“Due to a threat in the neighbourhood, St. John’s High School is closed this morning out of an abundance of caution,” a message on the school’s website reads.

The Winnipeg Police Service confirmed to CTV News it received a report of online threats involving the school Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. The major crimes unit is investigating.

In a statement, Winnipeg School Division Superintendent Matt Henderson said the closure was put in place so police could investigate.

“The safety of students and staff is our top priority,” Henderson wrote.

It is the second Winnipeg school closed in the span of a week due to a threat.

On Wednesday, Bernie Wolfe School in the River East Transcona School Division was evacuated due to a reported threat.

At the time, Winnipeg police said no physical threats were discovered at the school and there was no threat to public safety. The incident remains under investigation.
