Winnipeg crews plowing major streets; residential parking ban to soon begin

The City of Winnipeg is starting plowing operations Tuesday following an overnight snowfall.

Following a snowy and blustery start to the week, Winnipeg crews are busy plowing the city’s main routes.

In a news release on Tuesday, the City of Winnipeg said crews are plowing roads, pathways and sidewalks based on a priority system that begins with regional streets, moves to non-regional bus routes and collector streets, and ends with residential streets.

The city notes it will begin a full re-plow of sidewalks and pathways at 7 p.m. on Tuesday once the winds die down. Snow clearing of back lanes will start on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Drivers are reminded that the annual winter route parking ban remains in effect, which means no parking on designated routes between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Residential parking ban to soon begin

The City of Winnipeg also announced that the residential parking ban will begin on Thursday at 7 a.m. and last until Saturday at 7 p.m. This ban allows crews to clear snow and ice from residential areas.

The schedule for when each zone will be cleared can be found online.

To determine which zone you live in, use the Know Your Zone app, the city’s interactive snow map, or contact 311.

Those found in violation of the ban may receive a $200 ticket or be towed to a nearby street.

Residents are asked to wait until the residential ban is lifted to report a missed street, as crews can return at any time before the ban is over.

The winter route parking ban will be suspended throughout the duration of the residential ban.

Drivers are urged to drive to weather conditions and use caution around heavy equipment.
