As sentencing is carried out in one of Regina’s most prolific cold cases, here is a comprehensive timeline of the nearly two-decade long investigation into the murder of Misha Pavelick and the subsequent trial of his killer. May 21, 2006 Misha William Pavelick, 19, attends a graduation party at the Kinookimaw camping area near Regina Beach. RCMP are dispatched to the area after learning someone has been seriously injured. An 18-year-old who was stabbed is taken to hospital and treated while Pavelick is declared dead at the scene. May 25, 2006 Pavelick’s family speaks out for the first time, asking for members of the public to come forward with information surrounding Misha’s death. 2009 - Saskatchewan RCMP provide an investigational update, stating it had conducted 125 formal interviews and collected over 200 statements. May 21, 2016 – Pavelick’s family releases statement marking the 10 years since his passing. The RCMP Historical Case Unit urges members of the public to come forward with any information. May 19, 2021 – Saskatchewan RCMP start a podcast titled ‘Who Killed Misha Pavelick?’ in hope of generating new leads. May 21, 2021 – Pavelick’s family speaks out about being interviewed in police podcast, reflecting on the night they last spoke to their son. May 2021 – A woman who was in Regina Beach with a group of friends the night of Pavelick’s death comes forward after listening to the RCMP podcast. May 2021 – A mural of Pavelick is unveiled in Regina’s Cathedral neighbourhood May 31, 2021 - The Saskatchewan RCMP Underwater Recovery Team conduct a search at Regina Beach. June 27, 2023 – The RCMP lay charges against a 34-year-old Regina man with one count of second-degree murder. Aug. 21, 2023 – The man accused of killing Pavelick appears in court. Case is adjourned allowing him more time to obtain legal counsel. Oct. 20, 2025 – The three-week murder trial of the Regina man accused of Pavelick’s death begins. At trial, the jurors learn that on the night of May 21, 2006, an “uninvited group” arrived at the party which includes Pavelick’s ex-girlfriend and her then-boyfriend, Andrew Perkins. Witnesses testify that Pavelick hit or threw a glass bottle at Perkins. From there, a fight between the two broke out. Witnesses say they saw Pavelick being kicked in the head and body by a group of young men during the fight while others testified it happened in a separate altercation following the initial dispute. It’s unclear exactly which fight resulted in Pavelick being fatally stabbed – but he was pronounced dead by responding police at around 1 a.m. An autopsy reveals the cause of death to be a stab wound to the heart. Pavelick was also stabbed in the arm and suffered three injuries on the top of his head in addition to severe bruising. Not one witness testified to seeing the accused stab Pavelick. The majority of witnesses told jurors they were not aware knives were even used in the various fights that broke out that evening. Nov. 14, 2025 – A verdict is reached. The jury finds the accused guilty of one count of second-degree murder. March 31, 2026 – Sentencing begins for the man found guilty of Pavelick’s murder. April 2, 2026 – The Crown requests that the man found guilty be sentenced as an adult, arguing that he had the maturity of an adult at the time. June 4, 2026 – Both the Crown and defence provide their respective submissions of what they believe the facts of the trial to have been in accordance with the jury’s verdict.
