A special weather statement is in effect for the southern coast of Vancouver Island due to the possibility of flooding early Tuesday morning. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the statement Monday, saying coastal flooding is most likely between 12 and 4 a.m. due to a combination of “high winds and waves.” Low-lying areas along exposed shorelines are where flooding is most likely to occur, the statement said. The statement was issued amid a heat wave on B.C.’s South Coast where high temperatures have broken a number of daily records but have not prompted any official weather warnings.
