Environment Canada warns of 90 km/h winds in southwest Manitoba

Parts of Manitoba will be rounding out the week with some intensely windy weather.

Following Thursday’s dust storm, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is warning that “damaging” winds are expected to continue into Friday.

The weather agency has issued a wind warning for parts of southwestern Manitoba and the Red River Valley, including Brandon, Portage la Prairie and Winkler.

ECCC explains that a low pressure is bringing strong westerly winds with gusts as strong as 90 km/h to affected areas. Winds will diminish on Friday afternoon with the passing of the surface trough.

ECCC warns that windy weather can lead to utility outages, as well as vehicle, roof and tree damage. Manitobans are urged to secure loose objects.
