A civic funeral for the Montreal police officer killed in the line of duty last week will take place at the Bell Centre. Montreal police announced Tuesday that the commemorative ceremony will be held on July 7 at 12:30 p.m. A funeral cortege will precede the service. Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane was killed June 22 after responding to an active shooter call in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood. A civilian, 68-year-old Michael Mizrahi, was also killed in the shooting. Police also shot and killed the alleged gunman, who has been identified as 25-year-old Seth Hatfield of Alberta. The 34-year-old police officer had been serving with the Montreal police service since 2021. He was laid to rest at a private service at the Islamic Centre of Quebec in Montreal where mourners paid their respects. Lamine Benredouane leaves behind a pregnant wife and a three-year-old child, according to an online fundraiser that has collected more than $500,000 for his family. His death marked the first time in 24 years that a Montreal police officer had been killed in the line of duty.
