The 2026 Manitoba Anglers’ Guide is out. Here’s what you need to know

Changes to licence fees, possession limits and size restrictions are rolling out this month as Manitoba anglers ready to drop a line this fishing season.

The province released its 2026 anglers’ guide, marking the start of another fishing season.

To kick it off, Manitobans can fish without an angling licence until April 5, but federal angling licences are still required in national parks.

Included in the new guide are new regulations, like updated licence fees and changes to some possession and size restrictions, the province said.

The changes came into effect April 1.

Meanwhile, the province reminded the public that walleye and sauger season closes April 6 in the southern division and May 1 in northwest and north central divisions.

It then opens in the southern division, except Lake Winnipeg, on May 9, and on Lake Winnipeg and in the northwest and north central divisions on May 16.

Some areas will be closed to all fishing from April 6 to May 8, including the Red River between Lockport Dam and Lake Winnipeg and its tributaries upstream to Provincial Trunk highways 9 and 59, as well as the Assiniboine River downstream of the Portage Diversion to Provincial Road 240.

The guide can be found online on the Manitoba Fisheries website. Printed copies will also be available to buy later this month in stores where angling licences are sold.
