A Barrie woman who fraudulently assumed the identity of a licensed nurse to work in long-term care homes during the height of the pandemic is back in jail for allegedly breaching her conditional sentence order. Hailey Roberts appeared in a virtual Barrie courtroom Friday morning, also accused of criminal harassment and publishing an intimate image without consent. After escaping actual jail time in Dec. 2025, Roberts was sentenced to a two-year sentence to be served in the community, including 18 months of house arrest and six months of curfew with a GPS ankle monitor. Roberts pleaded guilty in June 2025 to nine fraud and assault charges. Roberts, now 34, admitted to stealing a nurse’s identity to work in seniors’ homes across Simcoe County, including long-term care facilities in Elmvale, Midland, and Stayner, despite having no qualifications or training to work as a nurse. Roberts, as part of an Agreed Statement of Facts, admitted to using needles to administer medicine and vaccines to 58 patients in retirement homes. According to those who know her, Roberts has faked brain cancer and fooled two men into thinking she was pregnant. A Barrie landlord told CTV News, in Nov. 2024, that Roberts squatted in her home without paying a cent in rent. The South Barrie home, she said, was left a mess. As part of her sentence for the fraud and assault charges, Roberts was ordered by the court to live with her parents in Oro-Medonte. Her lawyer during the proceedings, Mitch Eisen, previously told the court Roberts was an ‘unsung hero’ who stepped up to work in long-term care homes at a time when the beleaguered healthcare system was in desperate need of staff. Roberts was arrested by Southern Georgian Bay OPP and remains in custody. She is due back before a judge in a Barrie courtroom Monday. The allegations against Roberts have not been tested in court.
