Collision closes eastbound lanes of Highway 7/8

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with critical injuries after a collision on Highway 7/8 in Kitchener.

The Ontario Provincial Police said a 28-year-old from Brampton was driving a sportsbike along the eastbound lanes of the highway near Courtland Avenue around 5 p.m. Thursday when they collided with the back of a Mercedes SUV.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital, but the SUV driver was unharmed.

A portion of the highway near Homer Watson Boulevard was closed. Police said the highway will likely stay closed until approximately 11 p.m.
