Why AI is creating stress for teachers

CTV’s Maralee Caruso learns about a new report highlighting the stressors AI presents for Canadian teachers.

While artificial intelligence can help create efficiency in the classroom, a new report is showing it’s also a source of stress for some teachers.

The report comes from online learning platform Education Perfect, which found that about 77 per cent of educators find it difficult to keep pace with the change of AI.

“We know it’s a stressful time for educators,” said Tom D’Amico, a learning advisory board member for Education Perfect.

“Most people think of the key one or two or three main large-language model AI tools, but there’s now over 46,000 AI tools, so there’s no wonder people are feeling stressed.”

D’Amico explained that most teachers are not necessarily resistant to AI and want to do whatever they can to help students learn.

However, concerns with AI come from security, data privacy and the desire to work in a controlled environment.

“We’re seeing right across Canada that training has not kept up with the pace of this change,” D’Amico said in an interview with CTV News on Wednesday.
