Manitoba weather: Mix of sun, cloud and cold warnings in province

After freezing rain and ice pellets Sunday evening, light snow past midnight, and drifting snow on Monday morning, the sun is shining in Winnipeg this afternoon.

All of southern Manitoba will enjoy a mix of sun and cloud on Monday. Below normal temperatures, though, could be less enjoyable, especially in the southeast, where northwest winds will be gusty at times.

Further east in northwestern Ontario, winds are lighter, the sky is cloudier and there is a chance of flurries across the region.

Meanwhile, a bitterly cold Arctic air mass has returned to northern Manitoba. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a cold warning for Brochet, Tadoule and Churchill regions.

The weather agency said the coldest wind chill values will be between -45 and -50.

Further south, temperatures will remain well below normal on Monday, but not cold enough to trigger a cold warning.

High pressure over the Northwest Territories is spreading into northwestern Manitoba on Monday, bringing sunshine or a mix of sun and clouds across all northern regions.

Winds are light across the north, except for Churchill, where blowing snow is possible Monday afternoon in gusty northwest winds.
