MPI to issue Winnipeg Humane Society specialty plates

Animal-loving motorists in Manitoba can show off their pride with new Winnipeg Humane Society specialty licence plates, the provincial government announced Friday.

Manitoba Public Insurance will start issuing the new plates on April 1. The plates cost $70, $30 of which will go to the WHS.

"We couldn't be more excited to be partnering with the province and Manitoba Public Insurance to make these plates available to the public," Bill McDonald, CEO of the Winnipeg Humane Society, said in a news release.

McDonald said WHS receives between 8,000 and 9,000 animals every year and care for as many as 400 animals at a time.

MPI issues seven other specialty plates, including plates for veterans, firefighters, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Winnipeg Jets.
